A New Perspective on Still Life: From Realism to Abstraction

Still life painting has a rich and varied history that spans many centuries, cultures, and artistic movements. The genre traditionally focuses on inanimate objects—such as fruits, flowers, food, and everyday items—arranged in a deliberate composition.
In contemporary art, still life continues to evolve, embracing new materials, media, and interpretations. While the traditional arrangement of objects remains, modern artists often use still life to make statements about consumer culture, identity, or the environment, incorporating photography, sculpture, and digital techniques into their works.

EXPLORE OUR BOOTH AT ARTVERONA 2024

This year, the gallery’s project at Art Verona 2024 explores the theme of still life by creating a dynamic dialogue between different artistic interpretations of the genre. It juxtaposes abstraction and realism, showcasing how various artists engage with the subject. Through this curated selection, viewers encounter traditional realist depictions of everyday objects, like the glasses of Peter Dreher and domestic objects of William Bailey, placed alongside other works that deconstruct or reimagine these elements, such as the assemblage by Alik Cavaliere or the paper sculpture by Pavlos.

This contrast highlights how still life can be both a literal representation and a conceptual exploration, allowing the audience to see the evolution of the genre and its ability to transcend form.
